August: Back Home for a Bit

I didn’t do any significant August travel due to the unexpected death of my dad in late July. It was a weird and sad month for me and my family. But we spent a lot of quality time together remembering all of the good times with my dad.

My mom’s birthday fell one day after the month “anniversary,” so to speak, of my dad’s death. So I knew I had to be there for her. I took the brief flight from Atlanta to Memphis this time, and it was interesting being in the Memphis airport again.

They are really doing a nice job there with sprucing up the airport. The gate areas have been upgraded and there are way better food and beverage options than ever before. Plus, it’s much lighter throughout the airport.

As someone who has been in that airport almost my entire life, it’s really nice to see. Although they still need more travelers to justify more upgrades, in my opinion, that airport is definitely on the right track.

While there, I spent a lot of time at my mom’s and at my sister’s. But we did get to go out for dinner one night for my mom”s birthday and that was a nice time.

Overall, that was all I could do for travel in August. It was just a hard month and I really didn’t feel like much of anything.

We did manage to go to one Braves game and the final day of the TOUR Championship, so at least we got out of the house and tried to enjoy life a bit. But overall, August was a quiet month, and that’s ok.
