Taking on New Adventures

After a year of being in Atlanta, we finally made the drive up to Asheville, North Carolina. Chuck has long wanted to go, solely based on the brewery scene. And while I have been a few times, it’s been over 20 years. So I was eager to see what had changed and how the city was recovering from Helene.

We only spent one night there, but it was enough for what we wanted to do on this trip. The drive up was right around 3 and a half hours, so we left early on Saturday and got to Asheville a little before 11am. We parked downtown and walked around until the breweries opened.

We started out at Green Man, which was a really cool space. We shared a couple of flights to try out their beers and also had a pretzel, since we were pretty hungry. Then we made our way to Burial Beer. This was the one Chuck really wanted to try out. It’s really considered one of the best breweries around and I can see why. I had a small stout and he drank a few of their IPAs.

After that, we walked across the street to Wicked Weed before heading to Twin Leaf for a final beer. Since I let Chuck enjoy the day, I drove us to the hotel to check in and get our bearings, then we walked to a couple of other breweries that were relatively close to the hotel.

First was the other Burial tap room. It was pretty cool and totally different from the one downtown. We had a couple there and then made our way to Hillman, which was on the way back to the hotel. We had some food there as well as a few beers. Afterwards, we walked back to the hotel through Biltmore Village and called it a night.

Sunday am, we grabbed breakfast next to the hotel and decided to drive around a bit. We made one stop at Hi-Wire Brewing in the River Arts District for a beer and just to check things out before heading back downtown to the Burial gift shop to grab some cans and a shirt for me.

We took the scenic drive home and enjoyed the mountains and hills coming back from North Carolina. Overall, it was a nice and easy getaway from Atlanta. And one we would definitely do again!
