Hilton Head, Again

Never in my life did I think I’d be spending this much time on Hilton Head Island, but here we are. And I’m not mad about it. At all!

Chuck has had a few work projects here, and timing has worked out to where I get to tag along. So this summer, I’ve already been able to drive down from our new place in Atlanta to the hotel on the island for a change of beach scenery and some relaxation.

I don’t know about you, but I find working at the beach to be a lot more relaxing and easier than working from home. It’s not vacation, but it’s definitely a break from the norm.

My trips usually consist of morning beach walks (with coffee) and then a quick shower before my work day begins. Then I power through the day of meetings, emails and projects. I usually have a break mid-day for lunch, so try to walk around the hotel to grab a bite or, if there’s time, head off site to get a quick sandwich or something for the room. Then, once the day is over, I head to the pool for a quick dip or the beach for another walk.

The evenings here are spent checking out a great restaurant, bar or brewery and we always find some kind of interesting scene to keep us entertained. We do great finding a fun, seemingly local bar, that has some cool people that give us a great look at island living. It’s one of my favorite things about coming here, seeing how chill everyone is.

Also, I always have to spend some time at the fire pits on the property at the hotel with a glass of wine in hand. And of course, no evening is complete without another quick walk along the beach.

Overall, I find these types of trips kind of restful and invigorating. I am not tempted to clean, unpack, set up our new apartment or do any of the typical home chores that are lingering and will still be there when I get back. And although it’s not a vacation, it’s better than nothing. And that’s one of the many benefits of remote work!
