I recently turned 50, and for my birthday, my husband treated me to a few nights in Hilton Head. I had been once before, but it was for a wedding and quite a few years ago. So I was looking forward to checking out the island as much as I could.
We arrived on a Saturday morning to the Savannah airport and quickly got our rental car before heading towards Hilton Head. We made a stop at Southern Barrel Brewing in Bluffton. It was a cool spot and we had a great light lunch and a few beers before heading towards the island.
Once we got onto the island, we knew our room wasn’t ready so hit up The Bank for a few more beers and some more food. That spot was super cool and we made our way over there again before we left on Wednesday! From the food offerings to the various outdoor spaces to sit and relax, this place definitely had an island feel to it.

We got checked in and to our suite at the Sonesta, where I was surprised with some wine and treats for my birthday week. The room was beautiful and the view was even better. I knew this would be a great way to ring in my 50th year!

We made our way to three great dinner spots while there: Nunzio’s, Ely’s and Wise Guys. We also hit up Island Bagel for breakfast one day, which was really fun. Overall, I was impressed with the food offerings on the island since I thought it’d be a bit more quiet and maybe a have a few places shut down due to the time of the year. But it seemed like most all of the places there were open and available.
I spent each of my 4 days there doing long beach walks, even when it was windier than I expected. I also was able to spend some time at the pool since there was one day with perfect weather! Chuck got me a massage the day before my birthday, which was a really nice treat.
Overall, the trip was a great way to kick off 50. I relaxed, got my beach time, had some great food and wine, enjoyed the views and more. I definitely plan on going back again to check out more restaurants and maybe try my hand at 9 holes of golf!
