Finally, after two years, Mardi Gras celebrations are back in New Orleans. And it couldn’t have come at a better time.
Sure there is Covid still around. And if anyone is honest with themselves, it’ll always be around. But now we have the benefit of knowing how it’s spread as well the vast access to vaccines, at least here in America. So, in my opinion, people need to be able to get out and live their lives.
Yes, we need to keep the hospitals from overflowing with Covid patients. That is a blog for a different day. But overall, it’s time. And while Mardi Gras is a crowded event, the real celebrations are outside. That gives us a sense of safety and ability to step back away from the crowds if we choose to do so.
The city is buzzing and rightfully so. The vaccination rate in the city is one of the highest in the country and everyone here has done what they can to make sure the fun events that the city is known for happen in 2022.
This week starts the 3 week stretch for me and Chuck with the celebrations. The temperatures are a bit warmer and we have reservations galore for lunches and dinners in between parades.
Finalizing our costumes for Krewe of Cork, we are excited about marching through the French Quarter on the 18th and seeing all the happy faces.
Overall, this might be the stress reliever I need to get myself over this two-year stresser of Covid.
So bring on the festivities. I’ll still mask up around big crowds (thanks to my cute masks!) and adhere to showing my vax card in all the restaurants and bars. But I am done with the overly cautious nature I’ve been in for two years. It’s time to breathe, and celebrate and live!
