High above the clouds, ready to explore the world

Friend time is the best time

This past weekend, a few friends and I headed to Fairhope, Alabama to visit one of my very first New Orleans pals, Tricia. She had moved to Fairhope several years ago and this was the first time we have all been able to head over there.

Fairhope is the cute town between Mobile and Gulf Shores that sits along the Mobile Bay. Much of this former fishing village is very old and the displays on the historic buildings is quite obvious. The downtown area is cute, spanning several blocks and includes the old buildings that have been restored as well as newer ones that were built to look as if they were done years and years ago.

There were four of us total heading to Fairhope and Laurie and I rented a small apartment downtown while Marcie and Jacque stayed at Tricia’s house nearby.

We met up Friday night at The Hope Farm for drinks and dinner. This place was awesome. Tons of outdoor seating, a fireplace that we didn’t need this time of year and a great menu with locally grown veggies highlight the many great positives of this restaurant. We spent hours sitting in the more lounge area of the outdoor area catching up and enjoying being around each other.

The thing about Fairhope is that there isn’t a “thing”. I truly believe everything about this quaint little town is what makes it so unique and one of those areas where people from larger cities want to go to see a slower pace of life.

We spent Saturday strolling around downtown after lunch. We sat outside a bar and listened to the live music before heading back to the place we rented to get ready for dinner.

Before dinner, Tricia took us to the bay and we sat and watched the sun go down while sipping on some bubbly and chatting about life. It was a great way to end the day.

Dinner and drinks at a new wine bar were in order before we happened upon a fun band playing at the local bar nearby. It was all outdoor and while more crowded than I was comfortable with, had enough space for me to stay comfortably away from the unmasked crowd.

Overall, the weekend was so relaxing and catching up with my friends was so fun. I don’t do it enough and definitely plan to do more friend time in the future.

As my next adventure begins, I will look back on this weekend in Fairhope as one I’d like to replicate again in the near future.
