High above the clouds, ready to explore the world

Celebrating a little late with a quick Mississippi trip

One of the first weekend getaways Chuck and I took when we were dating was to Biloxi. We had such a good time walking the beach, grabbing dinner at some fantastic restaurants and just exploring the small town.

It’s now become one of our “go to” trips and we tend to head that way a few times a year for a quick weekend getaway.

With Covid and work somewhat getting in the way of our fourth wedding anniversary, we decided to take a delayed (by a week) weekend away to the coast. And I’m so glad we did.

Our typical trips have us leaving around lunch and making a few stops before hitting whatever hotel we are staying in that weekend.

On Friday, we didn’t get a chance to leave until later in the afternoon, but on our way to Biloxi, we still made time to stop at Lazy Magnolia for a bite of pizza and a beer. It’s one of our “normal” stops on our way to the coast and we enjoy how friendly everyone is there.

When we arrived to our hotel room, we got settled and decided to walk around for a bit, do a little gambling and eat a later dinner. It was great not feeling like we had to check our phones constantly for work emails.

Saturday started early as we checked out a diner for a great breakfast. We then got ready and headed to a couple of the newer breweries in the area. Even though the weather was a little chilly and gloomy, we made the most of it and enjoyed the fresh air.

One of the breweries was in the downtown area of Ocean Springs. If you’ve never been there, I highly recommend it. There are so many cute restaurants, shops and people watching. It’s definitely worth the stop.

Dinner on Saturday night was at Magnolia House at Harrah’s. We’ve eaten there before and really enjoyed it so were excited to go again. It was as we remembered. The service was fantastic (thanks, Latoya!) and the food was amazing. We were really happy with the meal and definitely will be back.

On Sunday, we slept in a little and did some walking around the area. It was super windy so our walk was short but it was nice getting out in the fresh air.

We made a stop in Gulfport at RackHouse on our way back to New Orleans. I’m so glad we stopped here! We ended up sitting here for hours, grabbing a couple of drinks and appetizers. It’s definitely on the list to return.

One thing we noticed on the drive along the beach back towards New Orleans was the amount of damage still visible from Hurricane Zeta. I knew it had done some damage, but didn’t realize how much. It seemed like everyone was on the way towards cleanup and fixing up the damage done, but it was still a bit shocking to see all of the blue tarps on the roofs, fences down and businesses closed due to the damage sustained in the storm.

Overall, our trip was much shorter than what we normally do since we didn’t get to leave New Orleans as early as we’d like. But it was a much needed weekend away where we could talk, try some new things and not worry about work stuff or home stuff for a few days.

Driving around the coast with the top down.
