High above the clouds, ready to explore the world

Where did the month go?

I can’t believe it’s been a month since I’ve blogged! I guess between the holidays and work, things have gotten away from me. But overall, the past month has been interesting.

Since the wine tasting, we’ve been busy. We made the trek to North Mississippi for Christmas and then right after, headed straight to Destin for a week. A couple of friends met us for a few days and we all just relaxed and caught up with each other.

From Destin, Chuck and I came back to New Orleans and work kicked in for both of us.

For the past 11 months, I’ve been doing the freelance thing. Mostly, I work when I’m called and then when I don’t work, I don’t get paid. It’s been pretty steady, though, and has felt like a pretty-much full time gig.

After the New Year, I knew I didn’t have a lot of days scheduled. And while I was supposed to be off the first week of January due to everyone getting back to their normal shifts, things certainly changed with the riots at the Capitol. I ended worked a few days last week and then all this week.

Sprinkling in a wine luncheon to celebrate the start of Mardi Gras season, the Saints playoff game and then the national championship for Alabama, we’ve literally had something going on fun in between Chuck’s numerous work calls and my unsteady schedule.

Then, on January 14, we celebrated our 4th anniversary. It was a day that was mostly about work and ended with a lovely dinner at one of our favorite restaurants where we spent time talking and not looking at the cell phones. It’s exactly what both of us needed as we step into what feels like another year of insane.

The next few months are certainly going to be a test. We are tired, like everyone, of the mask wearing, constantly feeling scared to get close to others, avoiding places because they may feel too crowded and not traveling! Sure, we’ve done some short trips like we did to Destin. But it’s not the same since we stayed in most of the time and didn’t really get out and explore like we normally do.

I can’t complain, though. Even though we are still in restrictive mode in New Orleans as well as in most of the country, we’ve been able to at least get out and breathe some and take in some scenery changes here and there. It’s certainly better than being locked in our apartment.

So with that, I trek into the last half of January with hope that things will continue to slowly get closer to normal for us. And maybe, just maybe, we’ll establish a “normal” that is even better than before.

A little beach time to say bye to 2020 and hello 2021
