High above the clouds, ready to explore the world

Unexpected Family Beach Time

When your sister calls on Friday saying that she booked a condo in Orange Beach from Mon-Sat of the next week since the kids’ school was postponed, of course I packed up my computer and beach stuff, rented a car and made my way 3 hours east.

The week at the beach was a much needed change of scenery. From sipping coffee on the patio watching the sun rise and dolphins play to working with a great view of everyone playing in the water to my own end-of-day dips in the slightly seaweedy water, it was just the refresher that was needed.

It’s been a few years since I’ve been to Orange Beach and since I’ve not spent a ton of time there, had to rely on some recommendations from friends who vacation there more often. And they were spot on!

We had great food and while the safety precautions were not at New Orleans level (which are great), they were not as bad as I expected. For the most part, I felt pretty safe but was certainly glad I had my own wipes with me and hand sanitizer.

I had to work every day until 4pm, but that was fine. I split my time between the condo and the patio and managed to get some ocean time in after I logged off for the day. Other than staying up too late every night, I didn’t really feel like I missed out on much by having to be upstairs in the room most of the day.

All in all, the best part of the week was the change in scenery. As much as I enjoy working from home, it does get to be a little bit of a mundane and also maddening being the apartment all the time. So I welcomed this trip and adding in some family time, while comparing our great masks, was just what I needed.

My view for work all week
