High above the clouds, ready to explore the world

A little bit of fun in this strange time

To have everything that makes New Orleans “New Orleans” cancelled is weird, odd and just doesn’t seem right. Sure, it makes sense and I completely understand the why. But it’s still weird.

This past weekend would have been two of my favorite events: the Zurich Classic and weekend one of Jazz Fest. Obviously both have been outright cancelled since rescheduling all of the golfers and performers for a date that works for everyone would be nearly impossible. But I really missed being at both this weekend.

Fortunately, we were able to enjoy Jazz Fest, at least from years past, thanks to the bright minds at WWOZ. Arguably the nation’s best radio station is based here in the Crescent City and they had a 4 day “Jazz Festing in Place” lineup that played live shows of some of the best concerts that have occurred at the fest. All local acts, too, which made it even more special.

After a few days of dipping in and out of the live feed while trying to work and get some stuff done around the house, Sunday brought on a full day of Fest. The weather was perfect, not a cloud in the sky. And the tunes were absolutely amazing.

Chuck and I started the day with a bike ride with our friends, Aaron and Tricia. I put my small speaker in my backpack, cranked up the Jazz Fest playlist on Spotify and we rode.

Afterwards, we made our way to the parking lot of the building we used to live in, spaced out our chairs and umbrellas and listened to the full day’s playlist while eating boiled crabs and drinking a few beers. It was almost like being there, except there were no crowds, no mud and no waiting in line for the bathrooms.

Obviously it wasn’t the perfect day, but it was just what I needed after another long week of work from home. And thanks to WWOZ, we get to do it all again this weekend!
