Hitting Up Old Favorites Instead of Something New Leads to a Great Night Out

Do you ever find yourself wanting to experience something new and different, yet reverting back to an old favorite that you know will not disappoint? Welcome to a recent weekend I had.

Chuck was working a lot over the weekend and we wanted to try and at least do a nice dinner together since we didn’t do our normal weekend exploration. We tried and tried to come up with a dinner idea at any of the new restaurants that opened up in the city over the past few months but nothing really jumped out. So Chuck mentioned an old favorite that we hadn’t been to in a while, Annunciation.

We took a chance and made our way over to the restaurant with no reservation. With so many college students in town for formals, we knew it was risky, but decided to try it anyway. And lo and behold there was room at the bar! Perfect!!

Although I had been there a few weeks prior with a friend, Chuck hadn’t been in a year or so. And while we ordered one of our favorite dishes for an appetizer, we both branched out and tried something new for our entrees. Thank goodness we did, because we both absolutely loved them!

The softshell crab Monica dish I had was absolutely amazing. I couldn’t believe how much I liked it as softshell crab is not normally my go-to. And Chuck isn’t typically a veal guy but ordered the Veal Annunciation. He came close to licking the plate it was so yummy.

Coupled with the wine from Hoopes Vineyard in Napa, we had a wonderful dinner experience. I guarantee it will not be a year between visits again!

After dinner, we made our way over to The Bakery Bar for some cocktails and dessert. It was fun watching the bartenders do their thing and really, the doberge bites are absolutely a “never fail” when you want a sweet treat post-dinner.

For a day that had very little on the agenda other than work for him and chores for me, we certainly ended it on a high note. I’m glad we went back to some old favorites. Now, what will this weekend have in store?
