High above the clouds, ready to explore the world

Rolling with the Tide

I always love going back to the University of Alabama, and I don’t get the opportunity that often. Between the hotel costs that are ridiculously high on gameday weekends to the cost of tickets, we really just cannot afford to go up there as much as I’d like. So when I do go, I try to make the most of it. And this past weekend, I most certainly did.

I spoke to several of the communications students on Friday and could not have been more impressed. These young people are actively working towards their goals of working in Broadcast News and willing to soak up any and all information they can get. The best part of meeting them all is that they all have different goals in the business. That makes me so happy and I think the future of the business is in good hands.

After I talked with the students, I got to spend time touring the Digital Media Center (DMC). I’m super impressed and cannot believe how lucky these students are to be able to work and learn in such a high-tech environment. It would’ve been awesome to have that center when I was there!

Since Chuck was so patient, I made the point to take him to the local brewery to have a few new beers. He was definitely impressed with downtown Tuscaloosa and we ended up eating a steak dinner at one of the newer (to me) restaurants down there. We finished the night hitting the other brewery in town before doing some shopping and heading back to the hotel.

Saturday was great as we got to campus early and were able to walk around and enjoy ourselves before the game. And what a HOT freaking game! I’m so glad we ended up getting newer tickets because we ended up in the shade the full game. It was still so hot, but that certainly helped.

A big win was the icing on the cake, and we finished our weekend hanging out at the Houndstooth before heading back and relaxing in the hotel for a final night.

I wish we could go back more but it does make me appreciate the time on campus and around when I do get the opportunity to go back. It’s definitely worth it and I look forward to planning my next trip!
