High above the clouds, ready to explore the world

Beach is the word

I have always loved the beach. From the first time I stepped onto the Florida panhandle beaches, I knew it was my happy place. And although I’ve never lived at the beach, I’ve never been so close to one that I can easily get to.

Don’t get me wrong, I could take a train to the Rockaways or a train, cab and ferry to Fire Island when I lived in New York. But those beaches weren’t the same. And it was still over an hour to get to each one. But now, in an hour flat, I can be at a decent beach with great beach bars and chill vibes.

So this past weekend, although we weren’t able to go for the full weekend, that was ok. Chuck and I were able to go to Biloxi for a night. And although it was only one night, we made the absolute most of it. From driving along the beach with the top down on our car to stopping for a lunch and a couple of tasters at a new(er) brewery in the quaint Ocean Springs, we had a great day on Saturday. We followed that up with a swim, nap and some reading by the pool before getting ready and walking along the beach to the Beau Rivage for a fabulous dinner.

Monday morning, we got up and went to the beach to walk around and explore. It was sad seeing all of the trash left from the night before and we threw away most of what we found. But it wasn’t as bad as some of the photos we’ve seen from parties along the East Coast from Memorial Day. We grabbed a quick breakfast at a cute little Biloxi restaurant and made our way to the pool for a little more reading and sun. We decided to drive US 90 all the way back to New Orleans and made a couple of stops along the way home.

It was an awesome 2 days that felt a lot longer. And breathing in the salt air and getting a little sand between my toes was definitely needed.

Now it’s time to plan the next weekend away, maybe to the AL or FL Gulf Coast for a change of scenery.
