The final weekend in April is always a busy time in New Orleans. Between JazzFest and the Zurich Classic, the city is full and there are two awesome options to check out. Plus, the NFL Draft is going on and every true New Orleanian is interested not only in who the Saints draft but where their favorite college players are going. To say it’s a fun time in the city is a vast understatement.
I made the most of the last weekend in April by hitting up JazzFest on Friday and the Zurich on Saturday and Sunday.

While I had a blast at both, I wish it would have been a bit better. Between my leg killing me from my recent biopsy to the massive headache I got due to too much sun and too little water at JazzFest, Friday was great but could’ve been better.
Fast forward to Saturday. After a good night’s sleep and some migraine medicine, I felt ready to go and we hit the Zurich around lunch. After a false start to grab tacos since Superior was out of tortillas, we zoomed around the course to check out several of the teams and got to see almost all of the groups that day. A few margaritas, tacos (finally!) and a couple of beers later, we headed back to the buses and to Urban South to grab a beer before heading home to grill out and enjoy the awesome weather.
Sunday was another great day on the links. The weather was perfect, the crowds plentiful and the golf got interesting. Alternate ball isn’t as easy for these guys so it was fun seeing them challenged throughout the final round. But once again, the food options weren’t as great as the healthy stuff was sold out again. I found something somewhat healthy to eat and then we headed back out to check out a few more groups before heading home for the day.
It’s going to be interesting to see what they do with the Zurich in the future. The group concept is fun for the fans to watch and it seems like the players enjoy it. But the course wasn’t in great condition due to the rain on Thursday and then very dry temps and bright sun the rest of the weekend. There are rumors it may move to earlier in the Spring and if so, that would attract more of the top players. But who knows. For me, as a golf fan and someone who just enjoys watching the strategy behind the play, I love it and will go regardless of when they hold it.
All in all, another fun and successful weekend in the city.
