Christmas at my parent’s house always brings some surprises, a lot of food, a lot of gifts and a lot of laughs. The older my nephews get, the more fun we have. They appreciate the gifts they get and always get surprised by a few things they receive.
Although there was a bit of sadness hanging over us with the fact that my aunt, Wanda, isn’t around to enjoy her favorite holiday, we all had a great time and a few laughs as well.
We started the trip with a dinner in downtown Memphis with the family followed by a short walk over to the Peabody to check out the decorations. They always do a really nice job.
Chuck and I did some last minute shopping on Christmas Eve before going to my sister’s new home for lunch. The kids played basketball with Chuck while we helped finish up some cooking for the next day.
Christmas morning started slow, with coffee and breakfast casserole before getting ready and the rest of the family arriving closer to lunch time. We made our way through the mound of gifts and had a blast watching everyone open their presents. It’s always fun to see what we get each other.
It was great spending time with everyone and getting a chance to talk to my Gramma over Christmas lunch was a bonus. We all really enjoyed the day and love the fact that even though it’s exhausting, it’s also relaxing and there’s really no pressure.
Chuck and I made our way back to New Orleans the day after Christmas with our gifts in tow. And although it was a short trip, it was a great one.
