I made the decision 5 years ago to move to New Orleans. Around this time in 2013, I was weighing two job offers: 1 great one in Atlanta that would’ve kept me in the media a bit but also not in a newsroom and 1 great one here in New Orleans that took me completely out of my comfort zone and would give me a different career path and lifestyle. I chose wisely. And although that initial job didn’t last too long due to circumstances beyond my control, it got me here. And I’m thankful for it.
I’ve learned a lot about this city over the past 5 years. I’ve fallen in love, gotten married, gained some great friends, gained some weight (hello, the food here is outstanding!) and created a life in my 40s that I could never have imagined. It was not always easy. It was not always fun. But it was always enlightening.
One of the best parts about New Orleans is the people. From the people who grew up here and have never lived anywhere else to those who moved away and came back home to so many of us who chose to live here, the people make this city so great. And I’m fortunate to have met some of the best.
I’m looking forward to the next 5 and to see what is in store not only in my life but for the city. One thing that’s for certain — it’ll be fun!
