When our friends called and said they found some pretty reasonably priced tickets to see Chicago (the band) at the Saenger Theatre, I figured I’d hop online and see if they had more available. Chuck LOVES live music. Almost more than me. But even more so, he had mentioned a while back how he’d like to see Chicago. So I ponied up some money and found some pretty reasonably priced (not cheap, but still good) tickets on the floor of the Saenger for Chicago last night.
While he tried to play it cool, he was pretty excited. And when we made our way into the theatre, he realized how close we were. At that point, the grin never left his face and he was all in on the Chicago experience.
The band started the show playing their entire Chicago 2 album. It is up (or won) for a special Grammy and they are using their current tour to play through the album in anticipation of the Grammy award show. Although I recognized some of the songs, Chuck knew at least half, if not more, of them.
The musicianship of the band was phenomenal. Listening to them in the 80s, I just never really realized or appreciated what great musicians they are. There are still 3 founding members of the band on tour and some of the others have been with them for 20 plus years.
The second half of the show had them playing their hits and they did not disappoint. With a few pauses to speak to the crowd, they powered through every single song you’ve ever heard on the radio. And it was fantastic.
So next time I get a wild hair to buy last minute tickets to see a concert of an iconic band, I am totally going to hop online and see what I can find. This was a great experience and even better since my husband hasn’t stopped smiling since the music started last night.
