High above the clouds, ready to explore the world

Going back to get ahead

Every now and then, I get the opportunity to go back to an area where I once lived. This week finds me in NYC for some work meetings and an interview for my CEO. While here, I’ve had the opportunity to meet up with friends and former colleagues to catch up. All of these conversations, on top of the massive amounts of walking I’ve done, remind me of something that is important: I lived here, I survived and I’m thriving.

While my life is great, there are always issues that pop up and make me question if I made the right decision in moving to New Orleans. Every time that question does pop up, the answer is a resounding “yes”. But sometimes I need a reality check and being in New York has given me that.

While I’ll always appreciate my 8 years spent in the city, I’m also glad I no longer call this home. It’s not home. It was a place that I lived, and worked, and met some of the best people ever. I certainly miss a few things about the city: the bodegas, fantastic wine bars and true Italian food. But the biggest things I miss are my friends. So I’m staying the weekend and Chuck and I will be able to hang out with the gang, catch up on life and get a “reset” to get us through the summer in New Orleans. And when I return to the Big Easy, I’ll have a renewed appreciation for the awesome city I live in.

But for the next few days, I’ll spend my time walking around and checking out some of the beautiful buildings and great restaurants that give this city such great life.
