High above the clouds, ready to explore the world

Why did we agree to this?

Moving while in the final weeks before your wedding is a bad idea. Moving into a unit where the previous tenant was asked to vacate said unit is an even worse idea. Trust me, I’m an expert on it now.

My lease was up and because rental rates were lower than we’ve seen in a long time, we decided to rent a bigger unit that would end up being the same cost as my previous one. We also thought it’d be easier to do now rather than right around the wedding. I’m not sure it was the best logic. Hindsight.

We looked at quite a few buildings and a few units at the Cotton Mill. We both liked the one we eventually chose for a variety of reasons. But we did know the current tenant was being asked to leave. Although we asked what the problem was, the agent was vague about it. After viewing the apartment, we were ok with it and decided to lease it.

Fast forward a few weeks and I got the keys…. And the news that the previous tenant had ripped the water line out moving his washing machine…the night before. This is a problem. Even worse that he was supposed to be out 13 days before.

So instead of getting a lot of our stuff in and organized before the movers came for our furniture, we got a few things in and just put out of site while workers dealt with the problem.

It’s now 2 weeks later and we are 75% in. All of our stuff is spread out between Chuck’s apartment, storage and our new place. Our new place needs work thanks to previous dude, and work that will cost some money. Finally, the stress of this plus the wedding stuff we’ve had to put off due to this has added some unwanted pounds and grey hairs.

So take it from me, do not move into a place where the previous tenant is being asked to leave. It will only lead to mess. And stress.
