High above the clouds, ready to explore the world

The best fest: Poboy fest

One of the best things about New Orleans is the constant supply of festivals dotting the weekend calendars throughout the year. The Poboy Fest is at the top of the list for me. This year, the festival, in its 10th year, moved from the November weekends it’s occupied in previous years to October. The weather was perfect and the adjustments the organizers made to the layout resulted in an awesome time and entirely too much food consumed. But hey, no complaints here!

50 different options were available from the more than 30 vendors spread out along Oak Street. From traditional options to the strange pairings you’d only get a festival, the taste buds were not disappointed with the selections Chuck and I made. Topped off with Chuck’s full enjoyment of Pint Ally and the $20 tasting option, we certainly made the most of our day. The key? Get there when it starts (10am) and stroll around until the crowds get to be too much. However, we probably could’ve stayed longer this year compared to previous. Once again, thanks to the layout, the crowds were manageable and the lines didn’t really dive into the walking areas on the street.

I’m already thinking ahead to next year! But before we do that, here’s what we ate, a few photos and some critiques, from a non-foodie who loves food.

Mahoney’s Oyster brie po-boy: Really great flavors. Not a big sandwich, which was perfect for sharing and get a good taste of it.

Red Fish Grill Shrimp and pimento cheese melt: This is the one I wanted to try all week. And it was awesome. I want it again. Like right now.

Cowbell‘s Hawaiian beef with pickled veggies: Totally bizarre and great. Would definitely order it if it was on the menu.

Silence of Da Hams Chef Guevara Cuban. Holy yum. Pork was perfect, ham was phenomenal and the little touches of cheese and spicy mustard with a kick was just awesome.

So yeah, we did no wrong with our choices. Too bad we couldn’t do more but I was full!

Now, what fest will we hit this week?
