High above the clouds, ready to explore the world

When the media is just wrong

I like to keep this blog focused on the fun I have as a relatively new resident of NOLA.

However, today is a different story. As a former TV news producer, I understand the need to get the story, no matter what means. But in my opinion, the media went beyond what’s news today. And not in a good way.

The landlord of the 2 shooters in San Bernardino, CA invited reporters and photographers into the home the couple shared. And the media took the bait.

The FBI had released the place after finishing their investigation. And the landlord took advantage of the press and let them in.

But here’s the thing. The press could’ve said no. Instead, they went in with cameras rolling and broadcast sensitive info about these 2 shooters for the world to see. Some may say, they’re dead. What does it matter?

Well, here’s my take. Stop covering the people committing these heinous acts.

The minute the media starts covering the victims with the robust coverage they give the bad guys, I believe it’ll keep some of these events from happening. The newest terrorist organization (I refuse to acknowledge their name) wants its name out there. So what would happen if CNN, Fox, Al Jazeera and the like stop reporting on them and start covering the stories of the victims?  I don’t know. But a lot of us would feel better about the world knowing about the good people. And I wouldn’t feel that my former profession was walking down Creepy Lane.

Media, I’m disappointed in you. And tired of it.

Do better.
